Taken 2 Gets a Trailer

Posted in Film with tags , , , , on June 22, 2012 by Eray

That’s right Liam Neeson is back and this time he’s talking the family with him.

Taken 2 takes off from the first film with the bad guys dad taking revenge for all the deaths in the first film.

The film is set in Istanbul, Turkey which is great for me as it means I won’t need to read the subtitles.

Tonight Cut the Cap was lucky enough to get their hands on tickets to the hotly anticipated film The Amazing Spiderman…

Man About Town with the obligatory backboard shot at the Amazing Spiderman Premiere

And tonights was no ordinary premiere as it was the first one to he held at Leicester Square since the reopening of the gardens – and we’re pleased to say the guys at Sony Pictures didn’t disappoint.

The whole square was transformed into a spider’s web with the Spiderman logo and hanging high above the Red Carpet – It looked great!

Pleasingly for us and the crowds that had gathered the entire cast turned up too!

For those of you unfamiliar with the latest reboot the awesome and very British Andrew Garfield (of Social Network fame) plays Spiderman, Emma Stone plays Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans plays The Lizard / Dr. Curt Connors. There are also parts for Dennis Leary as Captain Stacy and Martin Sheen Uncle Ben.
Be sure (as is common with all Marvel films) to look out for Stan Lee… he a School Librarian in this film…

I don’t think I should have been filming (the multiple security gaurds saying ‘put your phone away’ was the clue) but here’s Andrew Garfield chatting away:

And until the UK release on July 3rd here’s the trailer to wet you appetite …

I came across this video last week and had to share it with you all.

So Monopoly has had a facelift and has released The Godfather Monopoly. Play as iconic objects from the film such as a dead fish, a horses head or a can of Genco Olive oil.

Buy up property’s like Moe Green’s casino, Hyman Roth’s Home and the Corleone’s Long Island estate as you try to take over and lead the five families.

And if you end up losing, just beat more cash out of your opponent, that’s the Corleone way

Prometheus World Premiere and review

Posted in Film with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 1, 2012 by Eray

Last night we were invited to the world premiere of sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

In all honesty I was never a big fan of the original Alien films not because I didn’t think they were good, I think it was just that I never got round to watching them. However although this film is considered a prequel it can be enjoyed as a standalone movie without having to go through the alien box set to understand it.

At the start of the film we learn that an archaeological dig has uncovered a star map which our main character believe is an invitation from whoever put us on this rock (there is more in the opening but I don’t want to give it away)

Cut to the end of 2093 (what a year) and the space ship Prometheus is on its way to the unknown location looking for the reason we are here.

I’m shocked that by 2093 we still haven’t found life on other planets but who am I to question that.

The film has a great cast with Michael Fassbender as an very interesting robot called David and Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace (minus a dragon tattoo) Logan Marshall-Green and East London’s Idris ‘Stringer Bell’ Elba.

The storyline has enough twists and turns to keep you locked in and perhaps (not saying it does) uncovers the truth behind who the space jockey really was (original alien reference)

There are some great surprises in the film however if I had to pick one thing I would say that if you plan on watching the film, don’t bother watching the alien films before as you will just be left asking questions and trying to link the films together (I’ve been thinking about it since)

Most people carry a red pocket square...not Ridley

Most people carry a red pocket square…not Ridley

Moments for me that stood out was the fact that one of the first things Elba’s character Janek did after waking up from a 2 year sleep was light up a cigar and decorate a Christmas tree.

There was also an entertaining moment came when he quoted Luther Vandross (classic)

The premiere took place in Empire Leicester square and the whole cast were there and they even stayed to watch the film which is very rare for a premiere. I did try and take some of Fassbenders Popcorn but he’s not a sharer.

Cut the Cap did notice the absence of Idris Elba (perhaps he was busy filming Thor 2?)

Spotted at the premiere was Mark Strong, Goldie (who sat in front of me), someone from made in Chelsea, Selma Hayek, Guy Pearce, Nick Cave, Mimi Driver, Peaches Geldof as well as many many more

I’d fully recommend this film as one of this year’s big blockbusters and to quote the trailer: “Prometheus has landed” (which wasn’t actually used in the film)

And FYI – you may fancy calamari after watching

Let us know what you thought of the film as it’s released today (June 1st) in the UK and 8th June in the USA.

The Great Gatsby Trailer

Posted in Film with tags , , , , , , on May 23, 2012 by Eray

The trailer for The Great Gatsby has hit the net, starring Leonardo Dicaprio & Toby Maguire and directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet)

“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings.

Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan.

It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

Check out the trailer below, and as suspected….. “Random cigar smoking shot”
