Ramon Allones Allones Extra Edicion Limitada 2011 Review

Those of you who have been following the blog today would have seen we were lucky enough to be at the cigar event at No.10 Manchester Street earlier on, where we got the chance to sample the Ramon Allones Allones Extra Edicion Limitada 2011.

The Allones Extra EL 2011 is the first Ramon Allones Limited Edition ever, making this a significant vitola. Especially when you consider the fact that Ramon Allones is one of the oldest brands around today. The Allones Extra was actually a previous model, which was discontinued in the 1970’s and the new generation has a great deal of living up to do, sharing the name of such a much-loved yet discontinued vitola.

Vital Statistics:

Length – 5 5/8″

Ring Gauge – 46

Upon initial inspection the stick is well constructed, nice firm bounce, few veins, and a nice mildly dark wrapper that’s barely oily. There’s a beautiful chocolatey smell off the cigar with no hint of tobacco. It’s a very sweet smell, almost taking me back to my childhood.

I cut the cap and took a pre-light draw. Sweet cocoa and coffee beans. Absolutely divine.

The initial draw when first lit is a very mild coffee aroma, slowly developing and throwing chocolate at you and, dare I say it, sugar cane? My initial impressions are this would be great with a nice dark rum which would add some caramel in to our candy shop experience. Perfect for dessert, just the way I like a cigar on a sunday evening.

Through the remainder of the cigar the aroma’s really just even out without developing in to other territories which is just fine by me. It does become slightly fuller and in my opinion becomes a medium to full bodied cigar.

So did I enjoy the cigar? Yes sir! Why? Because it serves a lovely sweet concoction of two things I am fond of; cocoa and coffee. Not forgetting, there are fellow cigar lovers who may enjoy their cigar with a coffee and this may be an ideal pairing. If any of you do try it, let us know in the comments below!
