Havana Club at Rumfest

Being a fan of Havana Club, I was very excited to be heading back to Rumfest to sample some Cuban rum cocktails.

On arrival we were faced with only what can be described as a massive cargo container, with beads hanging over the entrance.

As we fought through the crowds of people, we found inside was set up like a bar, reminiscent to La Bodeguita del medio in Havana.

As we got to the bar, I was a little upset at first to see Mojito’s weren’t on the menu this year, however on the flip side at least there was a whole new range of cocktails to sample using Havana Club.

I think I tried pretty much every single one of them, and while I tried to remember the ingredients, I’m glad I snapped a picture of the menu.

I thoroughly recomend the Salted Caramel and the Cuban Apricot.

After speaking with the kind people of Havana Club, they allowed us to try the 15 year, and this was the stuff dreams were made of. The taste was incredible and the rum was so smooth.

You can understand why this bottle is priced at over £100. Throughout the day I had tried other rums in that price range, however they were no way near as good as the Havana Club 15 year.

I could imagine sipping the 15 year on the rocks, along with a Bolivar or a Partagas D4.

As I’ve mentioned before, the 3 year is my favourite and after meeting Meimi Sanchez, Brand Ambassador for Havana Club (luckiest job in the world), she actually told us that The 3 year is what the Cubans drink while smoking cigars and playing dominoes. (I knew there was a reason I loved the 3 year).

She also told us that the 3 year is what should be used for a Mojito…You hear that people that use Especial?

Meimi, won the award for Rum Ambassador of the Year (UK) 2011 at the Golden Rum Barrel Awards that evening. (see other winners here)

After sampling some other rums, we ended up back in the Havana Club room, and found ourselves in there for the last hour, drinking more cocktails and chatting with the people from Havana Club.

We also ran into the nice people from ‘Icely Done’, who were handing out Havana Club and Guava Ice Lollies. Could the day get any better?

They basically rock up to parties and hand out Alcoholic Ice Lollies like I used to have as a kid.

All I can say is Cut The Cap would like to thank Havana Club massively for their hospitality and look forward to next year.

They even allowed us behind the bar for a quick picture.

We left Rumfest for the day and with the taste of Havana Club on our palettes, we sparked up our Montecristo’s.
