New York Mayor Needs a Cuban Cigar

My thoughts and prayers are with the Cigar smoking community of New York who have to come to terms with the fact that it’s now illegal to smoke outside anywhere public in New York.

At first I thought it was a joke, but it seems New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s latest move is to remove possible places to smoke in the City.

In his three terms of office he has backed smoking bans that have removed cigars and cigarettes from bars and restaurants.

This newest prohibition will make it illegal to smoke in city parks, city beaches, boardwalks, marinas, and even in Times Square.

Cigar Aficionado reported that anyone caught puffing away will face fines of $50.

At least the law will not affect city sidewalks or private businesses where smoking is presently allowed, such as rooftop bars. There is some hope!!

The move, which passed in a vote of 36 to 12, makes New York City one of the least smoker friendly areas in the United States.

The ban is expected to become effective in 90 days – perfect for spring when a stogie in the park is required.

Lets hope some cigar bar investors are reading this and are hearing my prayers! I won’t be in a rush to go to New York now.

Just throwing it out there but is it worth a $50 fine? hmmmm
