Prometheus World Premiere and review

Posted in Film with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 1, 2012 by Cut The Cap

Last night we were invited to the world premiere of sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

In all honesty I was never a big fan of the original Alien films not because I didn’t think they were good, I think it was just that I never got round to watching them. However although this film is considered a prequel it can be enjoyed as a standalone movie without having to go through the alien box set to understand it.

At the start of the film we learn that an archaeological dig has uncovered a star map which our main character believe is an invitation from whoever put us on this rock (there is more in the opening but I don’t want to give it away)

Cut to the end of 2093 (what a year) and the space ship Prometheus is on its way to the unknown location looking for the reason we are here.

I’m shocked that by 2093 we still haven’t found life on other planets but who am I to question that.

The film has a great cast with Michael Fassbender as an very interesting robot called David and Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace (minus a dragon tattoo) Logan Marshall-Green and East London’s Idris ‘Stringer Bell’ Elba.

The storyline has enough twists and turns to keep you locked in and perhaps (not saying it does) uncovers the truth behind who the space jockey really was (original alien reference)

There are some great surprises in the film however if I had to pick one thing I would say that if you plan on watching the film, don’t bother watching the alien films before as you will just be left asking questions and trying to link the films together (I’ve been thinking about it since)

Most people carry a red pocket square...not Ridley

Most people carry a red pocket square…not Ridley

Moments for me that stood out was the fact that one of the first things Elba’s character Janek did after waking up from a 2 year sleep was light up a cigar and decorate a Christmas tree.

There was also an entertaining moment came when he quoted Luther Vandross (classic)

The premiere took place in Empire Leicester square and the whole cast were there and they even stayed to watch the film which is very rare for a premiere. I did try and take some of Fassbenders Popcorn but he’s not a sharer.

Cut the Cap did notice the absence of Idris Elba (perhaps he was busy filming Thor 2?)

Spotted at the premiere was Mark Strong, Goldie (who sat in front of me), someone from made in Chelsea, Selma Hayek, Guy Pearce, Nick Cave, Mimi Driver, Peaches Geldof as well as many many more

I’d fully recommend this film as one of this year’s big blockbusters and to quote the trailer: “Prometheus has landed” (which wasn’t actually used in the film)

And FYI – you may fancy calamari after watching

Let us know what you thought of the film as it’s released today (June 1st) in the UK and 8th June in the USA.

Xikar 70% RH Puck review

Posted in Cigars with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 14, 2012 by ethemethem

Before I begin ranting and raving about my new toy I’d like to make a confession. I am terrible at looking after my cigars. A busy work schedule coupled with family commitments and others mean that time is at a premium. The knock-on effect is that I occasionally don’t get to check my humidor when I would like to.

Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 Review

Posted in Cigars with tags , , , , on April 2, 2012 by ethemethem

So Friday arrives and our fresh shipment of Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure No. 2 arrives with it, bringing joy and happiness and lots of warm feelings one could only get with the arrival of a long-missed and much loved family member. This could only mean one thing! Family gathering at the in-laws on Sunday (how I lasted that long is a mystery far beyond the capabilities of my mind).

Ghost Bar Day Club – Las Vegas

Posted in Going Out with tags , , , , , , , on January 16, 2012 by Cut The Cap

So New Year’s Eve for most people involves rushing around, stocking up on whatever alcohol you can get your hands on before making your way to the local Iceland supermarket to grab the last of the festive 75 piece platters.

For me this year, I had the pleasure of waking up to the sight of the Las Vegas Boulevard.

I had woken up with a bad hangover from the night before, but not wanting to let it stop me enjoying Vegas, I wolfed down a steak and grabbed a cab over to the Palms to spend an afternoon at the GBDC (Ghost Bar Day Club)

As we approached the Palms, we could already see people dancing from the balcony of Ghost bar which only got my adrenalin pumping more.

What made the event even more special was that Snooki from Jersey Shore was hosting the night (yes we all know I like Jersey Shore)

As we entered the lift, I could feel the adrenalin kicking in and as the lift got higher and higher and as we got closer we could begin to hear the beat pumping form the house music coming from the club.

Like a crescendo, as the lift doors opened it was like walking into a music video. There were dancers on the bar, there were women on stilts dancing, all matched perfectly to an amazing soundtrack supplied by the DJ.

We grabbed a drink (water for me) and headed out to the terrace to enjoy the unusually warm December rays. I couldn’t help but feel like I was in Ibiza, with the sun shining and the music pumping – I felt I was home.

In a strange way the music and atmosphere actually helped my hangover and once I finished my water – I was back on the Vodka red bulls. (coincidentally Red Bull  Las Vegas were the sponsor of the event)

Then Snooki arrived and the club went nuts. There was security everywhere, cameras flashing and people calling Snooki for a photo (yes I was one of them)
I tried to get in line to grab a photo, but I think the fact that I was male left me as a big disadvantage. However I didn’t let it get me down because the club had such a great vibe and atmosphere about it.

GBDC was a great way to spend New Year’s Eve afternoon. The music was on point, the people were friendly and the vibe was perfect.

We had to leave early to ensure we could get back to the hotel before the road was blocked off that evening, so missed the piñata and all the other shenanigans, but I will be back!

I’d recommend anyone to stop by GBDC on a visit to Vegas. The day club kicks off every Saturday from 1pm.

If you are planning on going. I’d recommend getting on the guest list. Check out all the info and contacts you need here at http://kineticevents.com/N9NEGroup/GBDC/

I did have some great pics and videos, however I lost my camera  :-(

Cohiba Genios Maduro 5 Review

Posted in Cigars with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on December 22, 2011 by ethemethem

Last night was an excellent opportunity to try out the Cohiba Genios Maduro 5. Me and Eray Galip (founder of Cut The Cap) took a trip to the recently opened Soho Whiskey Club to check out this new Whiskey bar and cigar terrace. The review of the venue is soon to follow so stay tuned.

The Cohiba Maduro 5 line use the leaves from the top of the tobacco plant, giving them a full 5 years fermentation and also a lovely silky rich dark wrapper which just begs to be smoked (and also leaves you begging to smoke it).

Punch Series D’Oro No.1 Review

Posted in Cigars with tags , , , , , , on November 9, 2011 by Cut The Cap

So on Monday evening Cut The Cap took a trip to No 10 Manchester Street Hotel to try out some cigars and catch up.

We had been here before so knew we were in safe hands. Nestled away behind Selfridges it’s a nice quite spot to relax, light up and enjoy an evening with friends.

I was especially excited that day as I had just received my Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2’s and after taking that sniff when I opened them, I knew I was in need of a cigar.

App Review: Oh! Edo Towns on iPhone

Posted in Gaming with tags , , , , , , on November 6, 2011 by ethemethem

It is definitely no secret that I am a fan of sim/tycoon games, especially business sims. That’s why Japanese developers Kairosoft first got my attention with their iOS port of their hugely popular japanese game ‘Game Dev Story’ when it first hit the iTunes App Store. Since then, I have purchased all their games on my iPhone(s) and I have to say, they are very addictive. So this week as soon as I found a new title available called Oh! Edo Towns I immediately made the purchase and downloaded it to my iPhone 4S and knew that I had to write a review about it to spread the news.
